READ TIME – 4 MINUTES
We've all heard of the term
'New Year, New Me'.
Well in the recruitment world, we often see ‘New Year, New Job’ too, since the first few months of the year typically see the highest turnover rates; combined with the fact a lot of organisations ramp up their hiring within the new year too.
2022 has seen a rollercoaster of trends within the recruitment sector, with ‘The Great Candidate Shortage’ currently shaking up the industry. With this movement predicted to follow through into 2023, it’s important now more than ever, to ensure your recruitment game is top-notch and that you’re taking a different approach to other hiring managers.
And what better time than December to ensure you’re stepping into the new recruitment year on the right foot.
So… let’s delve into how you can recruit differently in 2023 to ensure you’re connected with your next winning hire!
Streamlining your recruitment process
One of our most important tips… speed and efficiency; a skill that many recruiter forget the value in.
With so many people eagerly job hunting, many are in the fortunate position to not have to wait around for recruiters to be getting back to them… and will likely have other options coming back to them sooner.
Therefore, acting fast and responding to candidates as soon as possible minimises the chances of losing them to competitors and ensures you have the greatest opportunity of reaching the best candidates. So moving forward, when recruiting in 2023, aim to respond and move candidates forward as soon as you can.
However, being quick shouldn’t take away from…
…The candidate journey
We went to our Recruitment Director, Clair, for this tip as she is the wiz of creating outstanding candidate journeys. Clair emphasised the cruciality of constructing a seamless process that doesn’t put candidates off – 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘭𝘦𝘵‘𝘴 𝘣𝘦 𝘩𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘢 25 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳.
Clair does this herself by minimising the number of touchpoints throughout her hiring processes and instead makes every stage enjoyable and worthwhile, for both the potential candidate and recruiter.
Position yourself to the increasing bargaining power of employees
This leads onto the importance of attracting and retraining candidates by evolving your company policies with the growing bargaining power of employees.
We’re currently in a ‘New Worker Revolution’ where candidates and employees priorities are shifting, a lot of which can be thanks to the pandemic. Therefore, it’s essential that you’re showcasing your benefits. Especially those in-line with employees new ideals.
Including the likes of Flexi-working, Early finish on a Friday, mental health and well-being days off or benefits that are around development and progression.
You may be surprised at how much tailoring your job brief to the benefits you offer can make a difference, so add this to your strategy when recruiting in 2023.

Don’t neglect the potential LinkedIn has to offer
Social media has shifted the world of recruitment by providing new ways of finding and communicating with candidates. Such as discovering industry knowledge, events and networking with valuable contacts – it offers another dimension into recruiting.
So take advantage of the offerings LinkedIn can provide and integrate the platform into your next hiring cycle when recruiting in 2023.
Get one step ahead of the game and connect with potential candidates now and try and attempt to build a relationship with them. By getting to know their needs, you can position yourself towards them in the new year, giving yourself a leg up, 𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙪𝙨 – 𝙮𝙤𝙪’𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙠 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙛 𝙗𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚 𝙅𝙖𝙣𝙪𝙖𝙧𝙮 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙.
Take a different approach
As everyman and their dog will be recruiting for full time positions, don’t disregard the opportunities that internships can offer- as you could be missing out on a whole pool of talent looking for a different style of work. These are individuals that you can train and take on further into the business – 𝘧𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦–𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘰𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘴 𝘸𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘪𝘵.
Going against the grain whilst everyone is trying to fill permanent positions in the new year, broadening your recruitment offerings could find you your next hiring star who is after a part time / flexi role- which have increased in demand since people priorities have shifted because of the pandemic.
If you’re not already considering your ‘recruiting in 2023 strategy’, then there’s no better time than the present. In fact, a recent study unveiled that 55% of professionals surveyed expect employee turnover to increase in 2023. Meaning you have more people looking for their next role than you would any other time.
